the temple of literature

Everyone! Please prepare to enjoy a rarely peaceful and quiet moment at a special place in this noisy city: the Temple of Literature. Except the king’s palace, perhaps this was the most solemn building in the middle of the exciting capital in the past. This site initially used to honor Confucius, who played an extremely important role in the political and social life of feudal nations such as China and Viet Nam. Confucianism originated from China, was a theory of politics and social security. With the purpose of finding the way to govern a nation, put the social life in order, Confucianism pushed up some strict rules for men and women, define the relationship between king and subjects, farther and son, husband and wife. His influence could match Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in socialist nations nowadays.
Also serving as the first university, the Temple of Literature is always the pride of all Viet generations about the tradition of learning. It can be said that the ….! Please look at the small temple on the roadside! There is a stone board inside with two Chinese words: “dismount from the horse”. That means whoever you are, however high your position is, you must dismount from your horse before visiting this temple to express your respect.
Please gain time to feast your eyes on the entrance of the temple and take some photos while I am buying the tickets!
In the past, the area in front of us was a pretty lake named “Literary”. Together with the temple, it made this place become an impressive and harmonious architectural complex. Unfortunately, before people realized its real value, the lake had been filled up because of the needs of the increasing population in HN!
I’m wondering whether you have ever seen any symbol like this in Egypt, China or elsewhere in the world. Four erected columns symbolize the four directions: East, West, South, and North.
On top of each column are 4 phoenixes stretching their tails and clasping the wings together. We all know that phoenix is a mythical bird. However, phoenixes in an eastern country like Viet Nam probably somewhat different with phoenix in your western homeland. This phoenix has the head as a justice scale. It carries the sky on its back. The eyes are the sun and the moon. The feathers are plants, the wings are wind. The tails are stars and the legs are considered as land. Eventually, phoenix symbolizes the universe. These phoenixes are looking at four directions. It implies that the knowledge from everywhere in the universe focuses on here. In our lives, in the progress of developing civilizations, perhaps nothing is more important than knowledge. So certainly this place must be carefully protected. And please remember that while there are a lot of phoenixes in the worlds, only in Viet Nam there is this type of dog with supernatural power.
The gate itself contains much meaning. Firstly, in the area reserving for Confucianism, this is the gate with Buddhist style. You can see this type of gate at most of pagodas in Viet Nam. Why there a sign of Buddhism here? It is a very interesting matter and a very long story with many complicated details. You only need to remember that in Viet Nam, there are 3 religious developing in parallel and surprisingly peacefully combining with each other harmoniously. 2 of them are Confucianism and Buddhism.
That I stand here and describe the gate is not as effective as you simply take some photos of it. And don’t forget to zoom in that image over there. Two dragons gather to the moon. It originated from a popular conception in China called Yin and Yang. Accordingly, all the operations in nature, in human life is resulted from the combination of Yin and Yang. The earth is Yin, the heaven is Yang. Woman is Yin, man is Yang…etc. Here, the moon is Yin and the dragons are Yang. They are staying together. It implies that all things are in balance, in harmony. And it is a best condition, the highest purpose that all human efforts, all operations in nature desire to obtain.
And over there are bats. The interesting is in Chinese language, the homonym of the term “bat” is “happiness”. (bat and happiness have the same sound).
To stand out the idea of praising learning, two meaningful pictures were created on the two sides of the gate. The left one (little difficult to see) is the scene of the meeting of dragons and carps. Legend has it that when carps overcome a lot of difficulties, they will become dragons with supernatural powers. The carps like students taking greatest efforts to succeed in studying, expect for one day of being a high-ranking mandarin.
And the right picture describes a strong tiger getting down from a mountain, like a student has just passed the examination, and it would translate his dreams into reality.
The gates on two sides are called the “left gate” and the “right gate”. In the past, they were daily opened while the main gate was usually closed, and only open on occasions of ceremonies for Confucius, when the king visit, or on the day of announcing who are on top of examinations.

Việc bạn dùng "this city" để chỉ về Hà Nội là sai. Bạn chưa từng đề cập đến Hà Nội trước đó và người đọc sẽ không hiểu bạn đang nói đến thành phố nào. Một lỗi nhỏ:"Accordingly, all the operations in nature, in human life is resulted from the combination of Yin and Yang", phải là "are resulted" vì operation la số nhiều.

" 2 of them are Confucianism and Buddhism.
That I stand..." Mình quên mất lỗi này nữa, bạn nhớ đừng viết số trong đoạn văn như vậy, lỗi nhỏ nhưng nếu đi thi thì họ vẫn sẽ trừ điểm. Tốt nhất chịu khó viết chữ ra lun, nhìn vừa đẹp mắt lại chính xác, không mất nhiều thời gian lắm đâu.
