1. Telephone Terms: Dưới đây là một số từ và thuật ngữ để nói chuyện qua điện thoại.
answer: Hãy nói "hello" khi chuông điện thoại rung
answering machine: tín hiệu mà bạn có thể để lại lời nhắn nếu người được gọi đến đi vằng.
busy signal: Tiếng bíp báo người máy đang bận.
call: Nói chuyện qua điện thoại.
caller: người gọi điện.
call back/phone back: gọi lại ai đó.
call display: Màn hình cho phép xem hình ảnh người gọi.
cellular phone/cell phone: một loại điện thoại bạn có thể đem ra khỏi ban; điện thoại di động.
cordless phone: Điện thoại không gắn vào tường (có thể cầm nghe trong nhà hoặc ngoài vườn)
dial: Ấn nút gọi điện thoại.
dial tone: Âm thanh khi bạn nhấc điện thoại lên.
directory/phone book: dạnh bạ điện thoại
hang up: đặt máy nghe xuống và kết thúc cuộc gọi.
operator: người trả lời điện thoại khi bạn quay số "0"
pager: Máy nhắn tin, máy sẽ rung lên khi ái đó muốn bạn gọi điện cho họ.
phone: điện thoại hoặc gọi điện.
phone booth/pay phone: buồng điện thoại ở nơi công cộng
pick up: trả lời điện thoại
receiver: ống nghe, nói.
ring: âm thanh khi có ai đó gọi
ringer: chuông báo cho phép bạn xem ai đang gọi đến.

* Hello? (informal)

* Hello, this is Julie Madison calling.
* Hi, it's Gerry from the dentist's office here.

* Speaking.*
*The person answering says this if the caller does not recognize their voice.
